- I've got a REAL big problem here at my univ. We are running pc-nfs,
- and I'm trying to get qws3270 to run on our 486/66 pc's.
-
- I keep getting a socket error saying that it can't open the socket.
-
- Can it be that the machine is to fast??? Has this ever happened to
- anyone? I need help!
-
- Thanks.

- Dear All,
-
- Thanks to the many folks who responded, both publicly and privately, to my
- request for information on a UUencoder/decoder for Windows. Thanks to your
- overwhelming response, I succeeded in downloading WinCode, ver 2.2 and
- installing it. Responses like these convince me that Usenet, contrary to its
- reputaton, is not the exclusive preserve of the mentally ill.

-
- Well, perhaps, but I doubt it Mike :-)
-
- Since you've broken the ice, I'll say something about this here and now... :-)
-
-
- BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU WANT SLIP OR PPP CONNECTIVITY ON WINDOWS THAT WORKS.
- PERIOD.
-
- We have already put together a ".CFG" file and placed it on our FTP server
- which is pre-configured for MCSNet service. Just grab the "mcsnet.cfg"
- file from the Windows-Packet directory on our ftp server (ftp.mcs.com) and
- select it in the CUSTOM window. Add in any dialing prefix, your login name
- and password, and IP address here and you're in business. You might find
- it useful as a config guide for other services, but no promises there as
- I don't know what, if any, requirements the other folks have in their
- config.
-
- This is a VERY NICE product. Been using it now for about a day, and
- another stack for about as long too.
-
- I've got 24 hours continual runtime on the stack now. Not a single problem
- noted. My understanding is that the book is around $25.00 retail. As
- cheap as registering someone's shareware SLIP implementation, and <THIS ONE
- IS SOLID AND WORKS>.
-
- Buy this man's books. If you need a place to order it from, send email to
- "orders@bytes.com". Books & Bytes doesn't have it yet, but they will ship
- anything on their title list, and I have warned them that I'm going to post
- this.... :-)
-
- Tested and known to work so far:
- WINTRUMPET
- WS_FTP
- QVT/NET3.9
- WINIRC
- MOSAIC
- WIN/GOPHER
- Eudora 1.4
-
- These are the clients which count for me.... and they all work.
-
- A note to all those "your configuration is wrong", or "your machine is
- broke", or "your provider is broke" folks. Guess what changed? One
- item -- the stack -- and the problems are <gone>.
-
- Causation proven? Nope, but that's pretty strong correlation. I rest my
- case; there is a SLIP implementation available which works well for Windows
- at a reasonable price.
-
- Bias? We provide IP connectivity to Books & Bytes, and I am the President
- of MCSNet. So I guess you could say I speak for the company, and am biased
- :-)
